Google Adwords Quality Score Explained

Note on quality score: Google (Google Adwords) states quality score is not used at time of auction when placing ads however Google defines quality score as: “an estimate of the quality of your ads, keywords, and landing pages. Higher quality ads can lead to lower prices and better ad positions.” We find that quality score indirectly affects ad cost and has a huge impact on the overall cost to advertise. Higher quality score = lower cost/click.  The below numbers and figures are estimates and information should be used as a general guide to better help you understand how Google ranks websites on search engines.

Google Adwords quality score is extremely important when advertising.  Simply put, the lower the quality score the more you pay to advertise and the higher the quality score the less you pay and more customers you’ll have.

Google and other search engines rank ads placed from 1-10 (quality score).  Google considers 5 a good ranking however we strive for ranking scores from 7-10 allowing us to show up in the top of Google search results for a fraction of the cost.  We do not run ads on Google under a 6 rating.  Most of the ads we run are ranked 7-10 quality score allowing us to pass savings to our customers

Factors Affecting Google Adwords Quality Score

Google Adwords SEO

Adwords Quality Score x $$$ = Ranking Score

Ranking score determines who shows up 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc on Google Search

Let’s say two competing AC Repair companies (ABC & XYZ) are striving to be the top on Google’s search when a customer searches for “AC Repair”.  Company ABC is willing to pay $10 for the click to their website and has a quality score of 3 giving them a ranking score of 30.  Company XYZ is willing to pay $4 for the click to their website and has a quality score of 10 giving them a ranking score of 40.  Company XYZ would show up first on Google and would not pay the full $4 for the click to their website.  Company ABC would need to increase their max spend to $13.34 to show up on top of company XYZ.

Quality Score is everything.  Many factors including website design, landing page and relevant keyword choices play an important role in quality score.

Quality Score

Google Adwords is “non-organic” where advertisers and business can advertise their company on the paid section of Google search engine and partners using a pay-per-click or pay-per-impression type model.  It includes the ads at top and on the side of Google, banner ads on partner websites and also includes radio and TV advertising.

Maybe.  We suggest trying our Silver or Gold Advertising Subscription first for at least 6 months before jumping into Adwords.  Typically, the longer you advertise in these two programs the more business you’ll receive.  They pay for themselves pretty quick.  Most advertising we do for our customers is geared towards quality score and ranking our customers high in the organic search results.  Quality score also affects organic search results on Google and other search engines therefore you may not need to spend lots on adwords to achieve great results.
